Arcade Fire was previously briefly mentioned, but not all of their innovative uses of tech have been commented on, so I'll add to it:
They are known for partnering with Chris Milk who created an interactive video with Google Chrome and HTML5 for The Wilderness Downtown. Viewers of their Wilderness Downtown video could type in their childhood address, school or hometown and were served up interactive content utilizing Google Maps to create an emotional connection between the song's lyrics reminiscing of childhood and the viewers actual past. http://thewildernessdownt own.com/
Their song 'Sprawl II' also innovated, with interactive dancing characters that could be controlled by a viewer through their webcams. Viewers can control the movement and speed of dancing. The video was directed by Vincent Morisset. http://www.sprawl2.com/
They also partners with Spike Jonze, who created a short film inspired by their 'The Suburbs" album. The short is titled "Scenes from 'The Suburbs'" and premiered at SXSW 2011. http://www.arcadefire.com /sfts/A... Fire also partnered with YouTube to live stream one of their concerts.
I definitely recommend checking out all of their work. It's pretty inspiring.
