Why doesn't TechCrunch cover Latin America startups?

UPDATE, 18 Sep 12:  TechCrunch did recently "discover" Latin America -- a number of companies from LA attended SF Disrupt in September 2012, including companies from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Mexico -- each of these had its own "pavilion" to exhibit their companies.

That said, there still is not a lot of coverage, at least in English.  Shameless plug: I'm pretty sure my blog, www.latamstartupblog.com, is the only one that focuses exclusively on LA in English.

Pulso Social (www.pulsosocial.com) is also providing a little more English language coverage lately.

They do occasionally, but they don't have a dedicated LatAm section as they do with Europe.  Ironically, TechCrunch Europe recently had a feature on StartupChile -- see here: http://eu.techcrunch.com/2011/11...

FWIW, if you are looking for info on the subject, I concur that Anna Heim at The Next Web ( http://thenextweb.com/la/ ) does a good job of covering the subject.  I am also trying to get my hands around it, but it's a much bigger subject than  Americans in the tech industry might expect.  Overall, tech in Latin America is growing by leaps and bounds.  For a good example, check out the recent Startup Chile event that TCE wrote about: http://www.startupchile.org/abou...
Logic and Perception. Logic: there is still relatively speaking only small amounts of innovative companies making the global stage in Latam. This should change however over the next 2 years.  Perception: Americans navel gaze to a crazy level and aren't very savvy about intl start ups regardless of region.
Great question. We noticed the same thing. The claim that Latin America doesn't have enough 'going on' certainly doesn't hold water. The innovative spirit rising from Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Costa Rica is gaining lots of momentum. Neasrhore Americas and The Next Web are doing far more coverage on this issue than most other 'tech/startup' online publishers.

Techcrunch has covered some Latin America news, but not the extent it deserves. Latin America has so much innovation happening, and I would say that sometimes the solutions that LatAm Startups come up with are more creative, given the limited resources of the region.

The tech ecosystem is growing, and as more companies emerge, I could see more established blogs looking at the region and covering such news. What they miss, is that there is already so much going that is exciting.

I am biased, but @Pulsosocial, we have recently launched an english edition and I think we do an awesome job at showing all the stories of entrepreneurs and tech in the continent. We are focusing much more in producing content in english and even bringing some of those startups to the US, to show people here that the continent is up and coming.

Check out it at: en.pulsosocial.com

and tell us what you think.
