Domain Registrars: Is 101domain a reliable service?

Answer Wiki

According to my experience, very clear of them.

I used them to purchase one foreign domain. It took 3 weeks to become active, and I got no answers from their support. Ever. I've been trying to change the DNS servers for the past few days and it's not working.

So that’s why i suggest Name Cheap

  • Because their customer support is really awesome
  • And they provide domains, hosting, servers, and SSL certificates at very reasonable rates as compare to others.

101Domain is definitely one of those "money first, customer satisfaction last" companies.

Whilst they do offer good prices for their domains, and their trustee service which allows you to bypass domain registration requirements, it was very disappointing to see how poor their customer service is.

They are not a scam, but more of a shady company.
  • You have to act really clever for them to not charge you useless extras
  • They suddenly use appealing words like 'kindly', etc once MORE money is involved.
  • Their customer service is .5 out of 10. It sucks beyond belief. They act like kids.
  • They are an approved ICANN registrar (See http://www.icann.org/registrar-r...)
  • They ignore you if you ask for refunds.
  • They are barely available to chat online.
  • Their DNS capabilities are outdated, and some extensions charge lots just to update DNS.

If you substitute all of those problems, you'll be a happy customer. There will be a majority of people who will not need to deal with their customer service, like me until today.

Here was my conversation earlier today with a dude called Rohit

Yes its trusted and supports Paypal payments as well. Thanks for making it possible to cover most TLD (some are not available anywhere else).

For fast DNS changes use 3rd party DNS service provider (eg Cloudflare).

Hoping for more quality service after 101domain Acquisition by Afilias.

But if you can find the domain anywhere else like GoDaddy, Namecheap etc go for them. The only pros is to getting other countries domains easily.

Absolutely NOT !
I had many domain names with this crooked company and they ALL got transferred without my consent!
I lost Thousands of dollars, they will rob you blind!
I now get my CCTLD's & IDN's from Marcaria (International Trademark Registration) or Gandi (Domain name registrar and VPS cloud hosting).

DO NOT TRUST THIS fake company. It is hiding behind a corporation named "Rightway Gate" ( Rightway Gate - Carlsbad - Carlsbad, CA)

The owner is a felon named Wolfgang J Reile. He is wanted in Germany and by  Interpol. His address is  3120 Verde Ave, Carlsbad, CA 92009,

Have a look here at points 18 and 19. Domain Name Registration Service Agreement They send notifications of domain expiration, 60 days in advance. If your credit card is on record, they will debit your account 60 days before a domain expires.

That is weird, but all still fine I suppose. But, in my case, my credit card on record expired and I never updated it in my account. 2 days prior to my domain expiring, I noticed they have not debited my card yet, and decided to renew the domain manually anyway.

96 hours later, the domain has been suspended because it was not renewed, even though I have an invoice from them indicating the date and time I renewed it prior to domain expiration.

I now have to wait 7 hours, for their “domain specialist” to come online. And their attitude is that this is my mistake. Going to be interesting to see now if they are going to actually force me to pay their $150 “penalty fee” even though I renewed the domain way in advance.

Personally I would steer clear of these guys. In 13 years, I’ve never come across a registrar with these kind of policies in place.

You would think if they could not auto renew the domain, they would have sent a notice of such? Makes me think, they do this on purpose so they can enforce their insane policies.

Hi, guys.

I use BuyDomains©

VERY BAD, UNRELIABLE SERVICE

My website exceeded the storage limit of my Host-To-Go hosting subscription (1.1 GB out of the allotted 1.0 GB) and they disabled my website without any notice.
I wrote the support team on 19 May 2016, pinged a couple of times....
they finally answered me on 07 Jun 2016

UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Chris Thomson
Chris Thomson, own a few domains
I would say they're reliable. Here's why:

  • I purchased a domain (with an obscure TLD extension) through 101domain about a year ago and haven't run into any problems.
  • VeriSign would have confirmed their business's identity when they obtained the extended validation SSL certificate for my.101domain.com, so they aren't some shady site that doesn't want to confirm their identity. This SSL certificate also confirms that they are a US corporation.
  • The whois records for 101domain.com show that their website has been around since 1999, and is currently registered until 2020. The fact that their site has been registered for over 10 years should add a bit of credibility.
  • If you're looking to purchase a domain with an obscure TLD, 101domain is probably a safer choice than some foreign registrar. Many foreign registrars only offer their website and support in their native language, so you may not understand everything you need to.
  • Unlike many (foreign) registrars for these obscure TLDs, 101domain does not require you to pay by wire transfer or check. Paying with PayPal or a major credit card greatly reduces the risk being burned by potential fraud.

JR Patten, Bought dozens of domains over the years. Mostly from GoDaddy, but not all.
Based on my experience, steer very clear of them.

I used them to purchase one foreign domain. It took 3 weeks to become active, and I got no answers from their support. Ever. I've been trying to change the DNS servers for the past few days and it's not working.

I'm currently attempting to change the domain to another registrar. :(
