IPhone 6 ask for a wrong Apple ID after reset. What should I do?

I have an iPhone 6 which I bought it new last year. It was on my iCloud find my iPhone. Recently I bought a new iPhone 6s. I want to sell the old iPhone 6 to friend. As suggested in Apple website I went to find my iPhone and removed my iPhone 6 to let my friend to use my iPhone. When he reseted the iPhone 6, it now say that it’s locked with an Apple ID. It shows t*****@yahoo.com. But the problem is that I don’t know what is that. It’s not my Apple ID so I can’t login and unlock it.

What should I do now?

Before reset it asked for my Apple ID to disable find my iPhone. I did that and it accepted but now when it reboot after restore it ask for an Apple ID that I have no idea about!

I know activation lock is to prevent stealing iPhones but that is my iPhone. I used it for a year and it was on my iCloud which I removed it before giving it to my friend but after reset it asks for a random Apple ID which I don’t know what it is. How is that possible?

If you bought it used, you may have a stolen phone.  You might contact Apple for help, but the AppleID lock is an antitheft measure.

Never buy an iPhone or iPad unless it is already completely erased and at the factory setup screen.

Thanks for the A2A.

Did someone perhaps own the phone before you or did you mistake the Apple ID on the phone? Is it your friend's Apple ID by any chance?

If you have your proof of purchase from an Apple Store or authorized reseller, you can call Apple Support for options. You can call Apple Support even if you don't have one and we can investigate it with you on the off chance there is some type of issue, but the POP will allow us to put through the device for processing regardless of that result.

This type of thing definitely merits calling, though.

It is possible because the apple that show on the screen is just the example the real apple id is one of your apple id.

apple example: j*****@icloud.com

the real apple id should be one of your apple id.
