What made DuckDuckGo decide to advertise on 4chan?

4chan's biggest appeal is being a website that allows you to view and submit content almost completely anonymously. Duck Duck Go has privacy as one of its biggest selling points. So, advertising to people who are most likely to use your product is something that just makes sense.

We've done ads on reddit quite successfully for a long time (see http://ye.gg/reddit). We thought the 4chan community is similar in many ways to the reddit community, and would be interested in our privacy policy (https://duckduckgo.com/privacy.html).

I know that DDG is aggressively targeting college age users as is evident by their recent campus street team efforts. 4Chan has a large "currently attending" college visitor demographic. They may have looked at their userbase and determined that the highest converting user for their seat h engine is a college student and targeting them directly is a solid marketing strategy.
