Guccifer 2.0 is the name claimed by a person or person who hacked the DNC and probably other web sites associated with Hillary Clinton. It is not to be associated with Guccifer, an actual hacker now in US custody, as William Watson does below.
It is generally believed that Guccifer 2.0 is not a real hacker, and is just a fictional person created by Russian intelligence agencies to disguise their involvement with the hack. There are several reasons for this:
- No web presence for Guccifer 2.0 exists earlier than 6/15/16, the very day that US media publicized the FBI conclusion that Russian intelligence agencies were the probable source of the DNC hack, which began a year or more earlier.
- Guccifer 2.0 uses ‘)))’ for a smiley instead of the standard ‘:)’. This is common in Russia since the language doesn’t use the colon and it can’t be easily typed on local keyboards.
- In a chat interview, Guccifer 2.0 claimed to be Rumanian, the nationality of the real Guccifer. Asked to relay a message in that language, the statement was ungrammatical and strange, suggesting the use of a software translator rather than a real Rumanian native speaker.
- Metadata on the linked documents indicate they were read on several machines using a version of Office 2007 that was cracked and is widely used in Russia. Some of these machines were configured to use Cyrillic language keyboards.
- It is clear that Putin wants Trump to win, due to Trump’s anti-NATO policies, his lack of concern over Russian attacks on Ukraine, and Putin’s personal hostility to Hillary Clinton. Putin has a known history of supporting nationalist anti EU politicians in European elections.
‘Guccifer 2.0’ Is Likely a Russian Government Attempt To Cover Up Their Own Hack
A Romanian hacker, whose name is Marcel Lazar Lehel, who is currently in jail in Virginia because the U.S. Government does not want anybody to know what they’re up to. Before exposing the Democratic National Committees commitment to nominate Hillary Clinton, regardless of how people voted, he was known for exposing the art works of former president George W. Bush. In my opinion, he’s a hero. Whether you agree with me or not depends on what you think of Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. If you like them, you should like Guccifer, too.
