Why is Bleeding Cowboy still overused and why can't design authorities make it go away?

There can be things said for typefaces that “do the design work for you”… when a typeface has so much style built in, using it to make a stylish piece is simple. Bleeding Cowboys was designed to fit in this vein… however this typeface’s “style” might be a little over done, or at least not in trend anymore.

For that matter, I haven’t seen it in use much anymore… but I am curious what you mean by “design authorities.” If you ask any leading designer… they would have very strong opinions against this typeface. I’m not quite sure what else there is to do, more designers should learn taste and learn that this typeface does not have much taste itself!

It did give me a little chuckle, thinking about what a “design authority” would be… I was thinking of some sort of censorship for design or some sort of “almighty design dictator” that critiques everything.

Bleeding Cowboy is just a font. You can use it if you want, but that should only be in limited circumstances. It may be appropriate for some signs or advertisements that have a wild, oldish, or macabre tone.

Some people use it because it may get attention to their work.

Is it overused? I for sure don’t wanna live where you live then :-)

Design authorities can’t make it go away because:

a) they can’t tell everybody in the world not to use it
b) they don’t care
